Philippe ROMBI was born on April 3rd, 1968 in Pau (France). He makes the first part of his musical studies in the Conservatoire National de Région of Marseille, in particular with Pierre BARBIZET for the piano and with Pol MULE for the conducting, and obtains a First Prize of conducting, a Golden Medal in piano and in chamber music, as well as Grand Prix of the City of Marseille. It is by discovering the compositions of John WILLIAMS for Star Wars and Close Encounters of the Third Kind that Philippe ROMBI decides to complete his studies and to specialize in soundtrack writing. Having thought of UCLA (Los Angeles) he opts for the Ecole Supérieure de Musique of Paris, in the class of Antoine DUHAMEL, and obtain in two years a Diplôme Superieur de Composition. The first works of Philippe ROMBI for the image are for short films of the pupils of the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Métiers de l'Image et du Son (Fémis), in particular Isabelle BROUE. Producer Olivier DELBOSC is at the origin of his meeting with François OZON for whom he composes his first movie : Les Amants Criminels (1999). Then will follow Sous le Sable (2000), Swimming Pool (2003), 5x2 (2004), Angel (2007) and Ricky (2009), Potiche (2010), Dans la Maison (2012), Jeune & Jolie (2013), Une Nouvelle Amie (2014) and Frantz (2016). Philippe ROMBI then writes, among others, the musics for Oui, Mais... by Yves LAVANDIER (2001) and two Christian CARION's movies : Une Hirondelle a fait le Printemps (2001), his first success with the public then Joyeux Noël - aka Merry Christmas - (2005), for which he composes an Ave Maria sung by Nathalie DESSAY and is nominated for Césars 2006. It is during the screening of this movie at Cannes Film Festival that he meets Dany BOON for whom he turns into music La Maison du Bonheur (2006) then the great succes Bienvenue chez les Ch'tis (2008) and Rien à Déclarer (2011). Besides the fact of being a composer and arranger, Philippe ROMBI conducts himself the orchestra during the recordings and interprets regularly parts of solo piano. And so he conducted mythical London Symphony Orchestra in Abbey Road's studio for Merry Christmas. He is also sometimes a member of the jury, as at 8th International Music & Cinema Festival, in November, 2007.
